CAMP HOPE

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:29-31

WHAT IS CAMP HOPE?

Camp Hope was started by Earl Miller at Buckhorn Camp in 1979 with the focus of Heightening Outdoor Participation for Everyone. Camp Hope strives to provide a quality, Christ-centered outdoor educational experience for all, regardless of ability. Camp Hope provides a camp experience for adults with varying levels of intellectual and physical disabilities. The campsite, program, and activities are modified to meet the needs of the campers. Some of the most popular camp activities include: worship service, crawdad fishing, spa day for the ladies, pinewood derby for the men, a camp talent show, camp fires, a horse show and riding, and many more!

VOLUNTEER AT CAMP HOPE

Since 1979, Camp Hope has been providing respite for campers and caregivers through experiencing the benefits of the great outdoors and fellowship. Campers and volunteers alike are given an opportunity to grow spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually while at camp.

History and Facts about Camp Hope

Earl Miller founded Camp Hope in 1979 in response to the need for opportunities for adults with disabilities to recreate and receive necessary supports. The camp was built on the belief that anyone's life can be greatly enriched by an outdoor camping experience. This successful camp program has provided life-long benefits through recreational opportunities to adults with disabilities for 40 years.

The symbol for Camp Hope is the stone on the cross. The stone symbolizes both the firm foundation God gives to our lives and the bond that we all share as participants in the wonder of Camp Hope. The cross represents the strength God gives our lives through the sacrifice and love of Jesus Christ. The circle of people around the cross binds the Camp Hope community together, regardless of personal abilities or disabilities.
