Outdoor Environmental Education
Buckhorn's setting is ideally suited for outdoor environmental education. Our facilities, setting, and curriculum support help schools provide an amazing experiential outdoor classroom for students. Buckhorn's Ecological Diversity With camp's elevation just under 8000 feet, Buckhorn represents the upper parts of the Foothills Ponderosa Pine Woodlands life zone. The ridge top blends forest with open meadows, small aspen groves, ponds, and streams. At the same time, being close to the edge of the Montane Life zone, many plant species and bird species can be observed, like kinnikinnick, Jacob's ladder, lodgepole pine, North goshawks, broad tailed hummingbirds, and lack of lizards and snakes (minus the rare garter).
